The name, Ascension School, was chosen for the new school, Sister Wessel explained, because as Jesus ascended he said, "Go out and teach all na- tions." In a similar way, Ascen- sion School will go out and teach all those in the central city. "We need to keep the Catholic school alive in the in- ner city," she said. "As long as there are Catholics here who need schools, we will provide quality education." Many of the children at Ascension come from single- parent families where 61 of the mothers, from the 77 families, work outside the home. "As a school, we offer support to the total family," she said. "in at capacity, my mimstry is mZe than being an administrator." Sister Wessel has worked as a principal for nine years and said she involves herself in the lives of others. "I am with them to help in their journey of daily living," she said. "We are com- ing along together, both meeting the struggles of life." First grade teacher Anna Bruggemumldt gives some advice to a student at Ascemdoa School, Evansville. Caroling logo Mac Hawa, second-year art student at Memorial High School, designed the logo and promo- tional artwork for the newly-formed Evansville Christmas Caroling Association. The group is a not-for-profit organization which provides song sheets and donation cannisters for those wishing to revive the age old custom of caroling.
