How aen we say this whencwer ,,we pray the Lo;d's Prate;s Thy kingdom corot this "coming" that we cele- brate, pray about and reflect on during Advent. Advent is cele, brated with the singing of Advent songs, with Advent wreaths, with prayer, with violet vestments softened with tinges of blue making them look indigo in color. All of this is to give a sense of joyful anticipation, of waiting for the coming of the kingdom which is a king- dom that holds out for true justice and peace for which all people long. Perhaps this is what Mary was singing about while she waited for the, coming of the kingdom: "'t-te has regarded the lowliness of his hand- maid. And she continued, "He has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has put down the mighty fi'om their thrones and has exalted the lowly. He has filled the hun- gry :ith good things, and the I I rich he has sent away empty, (Luke 1:48.51-531 When we pray, "Thy king- dora come," we acknowledge the biblical axiom that the l,ord hear,,, the or\\;- o the poor. During Advm{t we an- ticipate all of God's people have that chance for libera- tion and life, for fullness and happiness. This is what Mar}, saw: this is what we antici- pate as we wait with her for the "coming." LET US PRAY PRAYER FOR THE SYNOD Diocese of Evansville III God of life and love, You sent Your Son to live among us, that we might know and kwe ; u, that we might serve and worship You as Your faithful people. Assist us in living holy lives as faithful disciples of Jesus, Your Nm, so that Your presence may be known and felt in our midst, that others too may come to know and love You so they may begin to serve and worship You. Empower us with Your Spirit to use fully the many gifts You have given us. Increase our faith. Help us to see Your plan for the Church. As we look to the future, may our plans be faithful to Yours, so that we, the Church of Southwestern Indiana, may further Your kingdom through preaching and living Your gospel. All praise be Yours through Jesus Christ Our Lord? AMEN I II I I [ I IdU I I
