First prize went to Jodi Marx, a member of St. Boniface Church, Evansville. Second prize was awarded to Brian Ray Rexing, a member of St. James Church, Gibson County. Awards were also given to four Marian Heights Acadamy students o[ diverse religious backgrounds. Stacey Mc- Clelland is a Methodist, Shan- non Beard is a Christian, Iji Asfaw listed her religion as "searching" and Kristi Pnacek is a Catholic. Students were asked to write an answer to the question, "How do I share Christ in my daily life with others?" Printed below is the winning essay from Jodi Marx. I believe a friendly smile or wink is sharing Christ with others. Giving of yourself and believing in someone, when they don't seem to have the strength to, is sharing Christ with others. There have been many times in my life where I have failed to believe he was there and then someone dear has enveloped me in their arms and I can ac- tually feel him and hear him say to me, "Carry on, Jodi, you are going to be just fine!" And I always am. All it takes to ex- press him to someone is a hug or just a touch and a few kind words. For two years I served as a Junior Volunteer or Candy Striper at Deaconess Hospital. The rewards and education I received from that job can't even be described. Every young girl and boy should do it. I ex- perienced pain, torme -'. desperation and fulfillnlL, .... The people there cried out to me asking me to help them, begging me to heal them. I felt so helpless at times. My job was to deliver the flowers, cards and stuffed animals to all the pa- tients' rooms. Seeing those peo- ple's faces light up with joy when I walked in the door was breath-taking. A wonderful feeling. To them it was a reassurance that someone out there remembered them, during their difficult time. Little things like this are sharing Christ and 'spreading his love. Being a teenager is difficult sometimes and can be very con- suming. Every once in a while I need to be reminded myself that Christ is still a part of my life. And I hope that with each day that goes by the many people I meet and those I alread know can feel the attachment and love that I feel from Christ. I pray they understand that not only is he in my heart but that he is within their hearts, too, if only they accept his presence. Then maybe they, too, will ex- perience the beauty of life and the joy and contentment that I feel each day through him! Message Classifieds ,i( )B ( )1'1'( )l{'l [ IN I'I'I I : I:()R AI.
