Auxiliary Bishop Wilton D. Gregory of Chicago, chairman of the bishops' Committee on the Liturgy, who introduced six proposals for change in holy days of obligation, noted that many bishops have re- ceived mail opposing any changes. At issue was whether to re- tain the obligation of U.S. Latin-rite Catholics to attend Mass on four of the six cur- rently observed holy days of obligation. Any decision of the bishops to change holy days must be confirmed by the Vatican. In one vote Nov. 13 the bishops were to decide whether to transfer obser- vance of the feast of the As- cension of the Lord from the Thursday 40 days after Easter to the following Sunday, the Seventh Sunday of Easter. The bishops were to cast separate ballots the same day on whether to eliminate the obligation to attend Mass for three other holy days -- Mary, Mother of God (Jan. 1), the Assumption of Mary (Aug. 15) and the feast of All Saints (Nov. 1). Kinder- gartens, factories and churches are destroyed. Up to today, over 150 churches are damaged or fully destroyed. "In Djakovo, the bishop's house and also the beautiful cathedral are de- strayed, there is no more tower and balls. The Abbey is also destroyed. In Vocin, inhabitants have been locked in for over a month. One cannot enter or leave the village. I do not know whether people are still alive. Houses have been occupied and demolished.
