ROBERTJ. COX
of "Competent Toastmaster."
Cox said he hopes to bring to
the diocese "a wide array of fi-
nancial background experi-
ence, including budget prepa-
ration, taxes, financial
planning, computer applica-
tions, public and industry ac-
counting, along with a strong
desire to bring success to the
diocese."
Cox was'selected through a
process which involved the
diocesan Finance Council as a
screening committee for appli-
cations received. A representa-
tive of the Council of Priests
was also involved in the search
and selection, which began
with the unexpected and un-
timely death of the former
treasurer, June 21.
Ronald Baumgart had
served as Treasurer since July
• 1992, when he was appointed
by Bishop Gettelfinger to suc-
ceed Msgr. Omer Meyer.
Baumgart was 43 at the time
of his death.
Msgr. Meyer- who has the
distinction of serving as trea-
surer under all four bishops of
the diocese -- is currently
diocesan investments manager
and senior consultant to the
treasurer.
Cox is the son of Lucille and
the late Corbett "Tommy" Cox.
He has two brothers and two
sisters.
Cox and his wife Brenda
have three children, Amanda,
6, Jennifer, 4, and Kristen, 2.
He said that his daughter
Amanda recently met Bishop
Gettelfinger at St. Philip
School, and had a chance to try
on the bishop's episcopal ring.
Amanda was very excited
when she learned about her
dad's new job, and wanted to
know if he would get a chance,
too, to wear the bishop's ring.
Cox will have a wide range
of responsibilities within the
diocese. Wearing the .bishop's
ring is not one of them.
