This statue, rather than a crucifix, "states to all who enter this holy place that it is the Savior, risen from the in whom we believe," it is written in a brochure published after renovation in 1978. "Ten years in a temporary Church; then 26 years in a pink and green auditorium," describes the early years of the parish, according a former pastor, Father Raymond Kuper. As for the I he described it as "one generation sinking its roots, leaving its mark; each succeeding generation building on the previous, ever developing." Father Robert Deig is the current pastor, "very happy to be hare" Christ the King. The frmer superintendent at nearby Memorial High School (1952-67) described his appointment to Christ the King as "almost like coming home." Christ the King Church is the last parish established under jurisdiction of the bishop of Indianapolis, in what is now the territory' the Diocese of Evansville. Planning for Christ the King Churchbegan in 1938, some six year s before the new diocesan lines were drawn. Bishop Joseph Ritter of Indianapolis instructed Msgr. Frederick Ketter, dean of the Evansville Deanery, to search for a location for a new eastside parish, to relieve overcrowdingat St. Benedict Church. He choose the current parish and began to acquire property. Father Willian Lensing, appointed the first pastor in 1941, be planning construction of a temporary frame church for the parish numbering about 75 families. Trustees, according to a were Paul Will St., Charles Deieu, Erancis Stagg, Walter Frank Lohoff and Hiram Wilson Bishop Ritter blessed the church Feb. 15, 1942. Father Maurice Egloff was appointed pastor in 1945, in the new Diocese During his pastorate, a home was rented for use as a rectory. {Father Lensing had lived with his father.) In 1947, Father Egloff completed negotiations for property on to build a parish school.
