Richard Lugar: although such objectives will need a phase-in period of several years Frank McCloskey: The Catastrophic Care Act requires states by 1992 to pay the Medicare costs for elderly and disabled persons with incomes at or below the Federal poverty ]eve]. By 1990, states will also pay for costs of pregnant women and infants meeting eligibility requirements. INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC POLICY Do you support or oppose the following positions? HOUSING Do you support a renewed national commitment to provide increased housing opportunities for low and moderate income families, the elderly and others in need, including public efforts to preserve exisiting low cost hous- ing, to increase the supply of decent, affordable housing, and to help poor families afford quality housing? Myers No Position: Oppose: Floyd Eugene Coates Comments: Floyd Eugene Coates: ownership raises morale; rentership decreases morale Frank McCloskey: I have supported legislation that would increase the amount of federal funding for housing assistance to lower-income households. In spite of the increase in the number of people receiving aid, still only a minority of all eligible families get assistance. IMMIGRATION AND REFUGEE POLICY Would you support legislative initiatives designed to offer (temporary) safe haven for persons displaced by war, civil disturbance, or national calamity? I would expect to support extensions of the bill's provi- sions, although it would depend upon the specific legislative options available to me. Frank McCloskey: I have previously supported one extension but am not aware of any further scheduled legislative action.
