The Message -- for Catholics of Southwestern Indiana Vincennes site of 150th anniversary of Irish influence in Am Hallows On Nov. 1, 1995, the Feast of All Saints (Hallows), All Hal- lows College, Druncondra, Dublin, Ireland, celebrated 150 years of service to the Catholic Church in the United States with a special Mass at the Old Cathedral in Vincennes. The principal celebrant and homilist was an alumnus of All Hallows College, Bishop Ray- mond J. Boland, Bishop of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, Mo. Bishop Raymond Boland's brother and fellow alumnus, Bishop John Kevin Boland, Bishop of the Diocese of Savannah, Ga., concele- brated, as did Bishop Gerald A. Gettelfinger. Other concelebrants included Father Mark Noonan, the new President of All Hallows Col- lege, who is returning to All Hallows after a year's sabbati- cal study at the University of Berkeley, Ca., and Msgr. John Delaney, Development Director for All Hallows College. The general public was in- vited to the Mass and a recep- tion which followed. On June 6, 1845, the first seminarians to come to the United States from All Hallows College arrived in Vincennes. Here in the local diocesan semi- nary the three seminarians from Dublin, Patrick McDer- mott, Daniel Moloney and John Ryan, completed their studies for the priesthood. After their ordination the Bishop of Vin- cennes, Bishop Celestin de la Hailandiere, assigned them to various churches in the State of Indiana. Fr. In 1846 two more seminari- ans from All Hallows College, Patrick Murphy and Michael O'Flanagan, arrived in Vin- cennes to finish their studies and to be ordained priests for the Diocese of Vincennes. Because these five alumni of All Hallows College 'served so well in the Diocese of Vin- cennes, other Bishops in the United States requested All Hallows College to send alumni to their dioceses. Since 1845 about 1,400 alumni of All Hal- lows college have come to the United States. Presently, about 350 alumni are serving in 50 dioceses in the United States as priests and bishops: Another 550 are serving in other parts of the world: Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Scot- land, Wales, Argentina and India.
