12 Bishops' i Continued from page 1 their national offices, the bishops face: -- Decisions on overall plans and priorities through 1993, in- cluding a recommendation to make the NCCB Ad Hoc Com- mittee on Evangelization a per- manent standing committee. -- A recommended 1990 NCCB-USCC budget of nearly $31.7 million, up $1 million from the 1989 budget. -- A proposal to increase the yearly national assessment on dioceses from the 15.7 cents per Catholic established for 1989 and 1990 to 16.7 cents per Catholic in 1991. With some 52 million Catholics in the coun- try, if the one-cent increase is approved it would generate an additional $520,000 for con- ference activities. The bishops also face deci- sions, subject to approval by Rome, on four liturgy-related items in addition to the one on priestless Sunday celebrations, These are: -- Permission to use the Spanish pronoun "ustedes," commonly used in Latin American National Bank Bickne!l.
