4 The Message -- for Catholics of SOuthwestern Indiana October 30, 1987 Father Patrick Shaughnessy dies '' Services for Father Patrick Shaughnessy, 80, who died Oct. 20, were held Oct. 22 at St. Meinrad Archabbey, with burial in the archabbey cemetery Father Shaughnessy was born in Indianapolis in 1907. He at- tended Cathedral High School and in 1926 he attended the Minor Seminary at St. Meinrad. He professed temporary vows as a monk in 1928 and he was ordained a priest in 1932 at Monte Cassino, Italy, and received a doctorate in theology from Sant' Anselmo in Rome, Italy, in 1936. He was pastor of Mary Help of Christians Church, Mariah Hill, from 1958 to 1960 and from 1967 to 1970. From 1974 to 1980, he was pastor of St. Joseph Church, Dale. He served as chaplain for the Sisters of St. Benedict at the Convent Immaculate Concept, tion, Ferdinand, from 1960 t/ 1967. He returned to the monastery in 1980. Surviving are a brother, Father John Shaughnessy of Evansville, and a sister, Sister Mary Shaughnessy of St. Mary- of-the-Woods. He's a winner Joseph Hancock demonstrates the medals and ribbons he has won in wrestling. This summer, Joseph won the Grand Nationals in wrestling. He was 38-0 in freestyle for 10-year-olds for the season and he is a junior olympic winner.
