Benedictine priests succeeded Father Kundek in caring for the parish at Ferdinand, for more than a century, from 1852 until Father Firmus Dick was the first diocesan priest in this cen- tury to serve as pastor (1964-77}. He was succeeded by co-pastors Father Sylvester Schroeder and Father Kenneth Graehler. In 1980, Father John Kane was assigned as co-pastor, replacing Father Graehler. The Sisters of Providence came to Ferdinand to teach school, in 1862. When they told the pastor in 1867 they would not return, Father Chrysostom Foffa, O.S.B., appealed to St. Walburg Benedictine Convent fin Covington, Ky., to start a new institution at Ferdinand. The latest project, a $400,000 redecorating of the church, was completed in May of this year.
