This year's win- ter Snowflake will be held Jan. 31 - Feb. 1. in Jail Nine diocesan administrators and teachers went "to jail" last week as part of fundraising efforts by the American Cancer Society. A jail was set up at Eastland Mall, Evansville, and the "inmates" spent their time calling for donations. Donna Halverson, principal at Holy Spirit School, Evansville, sent a letter home to her parents asking for a 50 cent donation from each student. "The kids in the hall said, 'She's worth 50 cents." She received $220 from the students, and thank you notes from some of her school parents. "Some of their relatives had died of cancer, and they thanked me for my gift of time." Benedictine Sister Mary Celes- fine Maurer, received $1,700 in donations from her school families. One family sent in a $200 donation. Also participating in the fundraiser were Lisa Popham, administrative assistant at Memo- rial High School, Evansville; Joyce Rietman, principal at Christ the King School, Evansville; Mark McDonald, principal at Holy Rosary School, Evansville; Kathy Sergesketter, principal at Holy Redeemer School, Evans- ville; Diane Burkhart, teacher at Westside Catholic Consolidated School,. A group of graduates of the for- mer Central Catholic High School, V'mcennes, has set up a scholarship to honor their principal, Christian Brother Leo Fabius. Before Brother Leo's death last March, this group contacted him to tell him about their plans to estab- lish the scholarship fund. Nine-hundred dollars has also been donated tea student in the Chicago area, where Brother Leo spent over 40 years.
