September 18, 1987 The Message -- for Catholics of Southwestern Indiana i Around the Diocese 7 People LIZ EFFINGER Scho01 Notebook School enrollment Resignation Liz Effinger, assistant treasurer in the Office of Treasurer in the Diocese of Evansville is resigning her position. She has worked for the diocese for 19 years. She will be assuming the posi- tion of secretary for Resurrection Church, Evansville. Bishop Francis R. Shea said Mrs. Effinger has been a "faithful and a productive member of the staff all these years." He praised the "high calliber" of her work over the past 19 years, noting there was "lots ot detail work and she handled everything well." Bishop Shea added, "It's hard to say enough nice things about her." Assistants Jane Durcholz, Virlee Wen- dholt, Shirley Berg, Irene Per- sehn, Florence Kordes, Susie Reckelhoff, Agnes Kempf, Rosie Hartwick and Kathy Klem will serve as aides to assist Sister Jovita in religious education classes at St. Anthony Church, Dubois County. Congratulations Clarence and Emma Wilmes are celebrating their 40th wed- ding anniversary. They are members of Holy Family Church, Jasper. Congratultions to couples at St. Theresa Church, Evansville, as they celebrate wedding anniver- Enrollment figures for schools in the Diocese of Evansville have been released fo the 1987-88. school year. The total number of students enrolled is 6,836. " The four high schools in the diocese have a total enrollment of 1,626. Ideas from Mike Breiden- bach, Jennifer Anslinger and Chris Antey were turned over to MD graduate Scott Titzer who designed the final insignia. The seal combines sym- bols of the cross, the MD, the Wildcat, the mortarboard and the heart. i ,"U dent activities and clubs at Mater Dei High School, Evansville. John Reinitz is handling stu- dent discipline and athletics. Father Mark Kurzendoerfer heads the religious program. Tom Dick will be working with students who are having academic difficulties. New teacher Victor Chamness is the new science teacher at Holy Redeemer School, Evansville. He is a 1987 graduate of the University of Southern Indiana. Sherri Cole will be teaching three religion classes. Volunteers Tina Kern is the managing editor .of the newsletter for the Mater Dei Friends and Alumni Association. Dave Rutter is copy editor. Features editors are Kathy Kunke, Mary Lue Russler and Dave Rutter. Clarita Ellert is contributing editor. Gary Schutte does the printing and Mary Ellert does the typesetting for the newsletter. Grandparents Day Grandparents of students atten- ding Precious Blood School, Jasper, were invited to help celebrate Citizenship Day on September 16. She also received an award for volunteer service at St. Mary's Medical Center, Evansville. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Cambron of Evansville. Catholic Charities Martha Halterman of Catholic Charities Bureau in Evansville will be the Coordinator of the Family Life Program. Volunteer Greg Mosby of St. Agnes Church, Evansville, participated in the annual Glenmary Home Missioners Summer Volunteer Program. The program is an op- portunity to serve the people of Lewis County, Kentucky, and learn about the history, poverty and culture of the Appalachian area. New officers Officers for Catholic Ministry of the Deaf for the Diocese of Evansville are Leo Greenwood, Holy Angels Church, New Har- mony, president; Brad Bueltel, St. Henry, Dubois County, vice- president; Michelle Rogers, Holy Redeemer Church, Evansville, secretary. The group has a monthly Total Communication Mass for the deaf at Holy Redeemer Church. Holy Redeemer Sister Carolyn Bouchard is the pastoral assistant and youth minister at Holy Redeemer Church, Evansville. She is a native,of California and recently made her vows as a Sister of Providence. Last year she completed her degree in sociology at Marian College, Indianapolis.
