Quasquicentennial Parishioners at St. Henry Church, Dubois County, are in the middle of celebrations involv- ing the 125 birthday of their town. Bishop Francis R. Shea celebrated Mass at the church August 16 and all members of the parish were encouraged to attend the Mass wearing Centennial clothes. In a pictorial history book of the parish, Father Marcellus Fischer, pastor of the parish, noted, "Quasquicentennial means much more than the pass- ing of 125 years of time. "It means that 10 Benedictine and 12 diocesan priests dedicated portions of their lives to keeping the faith alive. Seventy-five Benedictine sisters have developed the minds of the children in matters pertaining to God and science. "Three young men from the parish have become priests. Twenty-one young people -- 20 sisters and one brother -- vowed their lives to the service of the church. And 1186 people were baptized here, 189 were confirm: ed, 351 marriages took place and 500 people died and were buried here .... "Quasquicentennial means much more than a mere passing of 125 years of time. It means remembering a way of life, celebrating the successes and failures of the past, and looking forward to progress, joy and suc- cesses of the future."
