16 The Message -- for Catholics of Southwestern Indiana Agust 21 What doubt can teach you By CHARLIE MARTIN Catholic News Service SNOW ON THE SAHARA Only tell me that you still want me here/When you wander off out there/To those hills of dust/And hard winds that blow/In that dry white ocean alone. Lost out in the desert,/You are lost out in the desert. But to stand with you in a ring of fire/I'll forget the days gone by/I'll protect your body/And guard your soul/From mirages in you r sight. Lost out in the desert... CHORUS If your hopes scatter/Like the dust across your track/I'll be the moon that shines/On your path/The sun may blind our eyes/I'll pray the skies above/For snow to fall on the Sahara/if that's the only place/Where you can leave your doubts/I'll hold you up and be your way out./And if we burn away/I'll pray the skies above/For snow to fall on the Sahara. Just a wish and I will/Cover your shoulders/With veils of silk and gold/when the shadows come/And THE CATHOLIC COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN NEW YORK (CNS) -- The fol- lowing capsule reviews of movies recently reviewed by the US. CHORUS Written by Benzi/Matheson/Benzi Sung by Anggun Copyright (c) 1998 by Sony Music Entertainment Inc. Anggun is not exactly a household name. Yet like the rest of the world, pop music is becoming more international, and Anggun happens to be Indonesia's biggest pop star. Her debut U.S. disc features songs in a pop style that also reflect her Indonesian heritage. I found her disc quite interesting. If you are looking for some- thing different in a pop sound, give Anggun a listen. "Snow on the Sahara," her chart hit from the album of the same name, showcases Anggun's lyrical voice blended with words that hint of mystery. It's a combination found on several of the disc's cuts. The song speaks of facing doubts. Doubt often has its roots in fear. Sometimes doubts are a realistic assessment. Other times doubts are obstacles that self-belief and lots of hard work can overcome. Either way we are likely to need the type of support that the song describes. The woman in the song sings, "If that's the only place where you can leave your doubts, I'll hold you up and be your way out." She says this because someone she loves is "lost out in the desert" of sion and doubt. She will do anything it the person even "pray the skies above for on the Sahara." : Now I'm not aware of any reported in the Sahara. It is a metaphor to express the of the woman's caring. : Doubts kept hidden within oneself grow larger. They tend to take control of our choices. When we share our doubts with someone we trust, we can them as an invitation to grow stronger even in the face of realistic fear. For example let's say that you want tO sports team at School. Yet your doubts want you to believe you have little chance. This may even be but should that keep you from making your best attempt? When you share doubts with a trusted or she can help you put fear aside. After that, you again in a position to make a choice. And to make choice, even in the face of long odds, is to exercise your personal power. Even if you do get cut team, haven't you grown personally stronger? : Rarely do any of us reach goals doubt. Share your doubts with God. Ask God to guide you in rediscovering your inner power. Snow may not fall on the Sahara, but God can help you to grow by facing your doubts.
