She is the wife of the late Bob Downey, the coach of the 1925 St. Simon's High School Catholic state basketball champions. Rnniversaries Father Christopher O'Brien of 3904 Park Blvd., Silver Hill, Md., celebrates the anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood August 15. Daughters of Charity Sister Catherine Madigan, pro- vincial councillor, Evansville, was scheduled to participate in directing meetings on future planning and implementation, during a national meeting of the Daughters of Charity at Marillac Provincial House, St. Louis, Me., August 8-10. The convocation theme was "charism and col- laboration." Nearly 150 Daughters of Charity from the five U.S. provinces were ex- pected to attend the sessions, to address ways of furthering the community's educational apostolate. Stephen Ministry is a one-to- one ministry by trained, caring parishioners. "We have all had friends who were grieving, depressed, lone- ly, strangers in the area, ill, dy- ing or divorced, and we pro- bably wished we knew what to say or do," said Mary Ann Sang of St. Joseph parish. "We have also had people call us about a problem. Perhaps we felt helpless to respond to them. "The people who commit themsel,es to the 18 session , training program will be learn- ing helping skills of many kinds. They will be developing their own natural abilities."
