6 The Message -- for Catholics of Southwestern Indiana Au St. Meinrad monks celebrate jubilees Seven Benedictine monks of St. Meinrad Archabbey cele- brated their years of monastic commitment on July 26. Alrhabl Bonaventure Knaebel and Father Adelbert Buscher celebrated sixtieth jubilees of profession. Brother Ivo Staples and Father Simon McTighe cel- ebrated fifty years. Father Barn- abas Gillespie, Father Guy Mansini and Brother Jacob Gris- ley celebrated 25 years of pro- fession. Archabbot Bonaventure professed his vows in 1938, and was ordained to the priesthood on June 5, 1943. He earned a master's degree from Catholic University of America in 1946. From 1946 to 1955, he taught in St. Meinrad's minor seminary and was assistant manager of Abbey Press. In 1955, he was elected archabbot of St. Meinrad Archabbey, and served in that position for 11 years. He has been a missionary in Peru, S.A'., and pastor at several Indiana parishes. He has served as superior of the Benedictine monastery in Morelia, Mex., and as administrator at Corpus Christi Abbey in Sandia, Tex. He is currently pastor at St. Michael Church, Bradford. Father Adelbert professed his vows in 1938, and was ordained to the priesthood on Sept. 21, 1941. He completed his seminary studies at St. Meinrad, and earned a license in sacred theology from Catholic Univer- sity of America. His assignments have includ- ed work at St. Paul's Indian Mission in Marty, S.D., spiritu- al director for St. Meinrad's minor and major seminaries, and as an instructor in philoso- phy, liturgy and moral theology. He now provides pastoral assistance at Church of the Res- urrection in Fort Myers, Fla. Brother Ivo professed his vows on Feb. 12, 1948. He has served in various capacities at St. Meinrad, including in the guest house dining room, tailor shop and kitchen. He worked for many years in the monastery infirmary, and currently is valet to Archabbot Lambert Reilly and is assistant refectorian. Father Simon professed his vows in 1948, and was ordained to the priesthood on May 2, 1953. He has served as assistant pastor and pastor at parishes in Huntingburg, Indianapolis, Fer- dinand, Evansville, St. Anthony, Mariah Hill and Siberia. He taught at Ferdinand High School from 1958 to 1964. He now offers pastoral assis- tance to parishes, and works in the St. Meinrad Archives. .- Father Barnabas professed his vows in 1973, and was ordained to the priesthood on April 27, 1980. He has a bachelor's degree in history from St. Meinrad Col- lege, and a master of divinity degree from St. Meinrad School of Theology.
