8 The Message m for Catholics of Southwestern Indiana July24i ig Catholic Parishes Campaign 38.parishes top their pledge goals for 1998 Thirty-eight parishes have topped their pledge goals for the 1998 Catholic Parishes Cam- paign, according to the final report from C. Justin Clements, diocesan director Of the Office of Stewardship and Development. What perhaps is most signifi- cant, Clements said, is the partic- ipation at the parishes. The per- centage of participation, which is 62 percent for this year's cam- paign, shows a spirit of coopera- tion and commitment to the work of the Church in south- western Indiana. That commit- ment, at least as demonstrated in this significant manner, is ruxmatched or nearly unmatched in the country, Clements said. The average gift is another sig- nificant statistic, Which aIso shows that many parisl'ioners recognize the need to support the work of the church within their parishes and beyond their parishe s .
