Learning from love

ADIA
Adia, I do believe I failed you./Adia, I know I've let
you down./Don't you know I tried so hard/To love
you in my way?/It's easy, let it go.
Adia, I'm empty since you left me./I try to find a
way to carry on./I search myself and everyone/To
see where we went wrong./There's no one left to
finger./No one left to blame./No one left to talk
to, honey./There is no one left/To buy our inno-
cence.
REFRAIN
We are born innocent./Believe me, Adia./We are still
innocent./It's easy./We all falter./Does it
matter?/Believe me, Adia.
Adia, I thought that/We could make it.fl know l
can't change/The way you feel./I leave you with
your misery/A friend who won't betray.fi'll pull you
from your tower./I'll take away your pain,/Show
you all the beauty/You possessdIf only you
would/Let yourself believe.
(REPEAT REFRAIN THREE TIMES.)

What do Sara McLachlin, Bonnie Raitt, and the
Indigo Girls have in common? If you know the
answer, you are likely familiar with Lilith Fair, a trav-
eling tour of some of today's best pop artists.
McLachlin is also currently on the charts with
"Adia," a cassingle off her very successful "Surfac-
ing" disc. The song is an interesting tale of a failing
relationship.
The girl in the song is surprised at what has hap-
pened. She has spoken with "everyone to see where
we went wrong." She realizes that there is "no one
left to finger, there's no one left to blame." She always
"thought that we could make it... (but) I can't
change the way you feel."
Despite the disappointment she sings, "We are
born innocent .... We are still innocent." Yet the
truth remains: The romance seems to be over.
Most of us do enter romantic relationships "inno-
cent." This innocence is also lack of experience. We
don't know what we need to know.
Sometimes individuals have unrealistic expecta-
tions about first romances. A worthwhile goal in dat-
ing is to learn about relationships rather than to
