The Sisters of St. Benedict at Ferdinand will celebrate Heritage Day, Aug. 20 -- the 125th anniversary of the founding of their community. The sisters are requesting that all parishes in the Dio- cese of Evansville ring their church bells at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20. Sally Klem, Heritage Day Committee Chairperson, asked that the bells be rung "in thanksgiving for the work the Sisters of St. Benedict have done for so many of us in the diocese and also in support of their future endeavors." A special liturgy is being planned for the observance of Heritage Day, with a reception to follow the liturgy, at the monastery. Descendants of Bishop John Stephen Bazin recently visted Old Cathedral in Vincenne Bishop Bazin served as bishop from 1847 to 1848 and he is buried in the crypt of Olq Cathedral.
