July,10,1998 The Message -- for Catholics of Southwestern Indiana 7 Novices, first vows at Ferdinand of the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand novices and two have professed first vows at ' Immaculate Conception. Cathy Robinson and Michelle Sinkhorn have tered the novitiate, a time of intense study and spiritual for vowed membership in the religious commu- They have been postulants, which is the first state of mem- bership in the religious commu- nity, since August 24, 1997. Sister Maria Luisa Garcia and Sister Mary Jo Ressel have made their first profession of vows. They entered the monastic com- munity in 1996, and began their novitiate year in 1997. Sister Maria Luisa Garcia is from E1 Paso, Texas. Before enter- ing the Ferdinand communit), she worked as a social service caseworker at the Texas Depart- ment of Human Services in E1 Paso. She describes herself as "excit- ed and very grateful to God for calling me to live this life and to my family, friends and all my Sis- ters in community for their lov- ing support and prayers." In honor of her Mexican-Amer- ican heritage, she pronounced her vows in both English and Span- ish. Sister Mary Jo Ressel was born and raised in Kelso, Mo. Before entering the monastery, she was senior secretary at the Campus Assistance Center, Southeast Missouri State Univer- sity.
