2 The Message -- for Catholics of Southwestern Indiana June 26, 199' Monks of Saint Meinrad Arc] abbey celebrate Jubilees Seven members of the St. Meinrad Archabbey monastic community celebrated ju- bilees of their priestly ordina- tions, Sunday, June 14. Benedictine Father Bernard Beck celebrated 60 years as a priest. Celebrating 50 years were Fathers Marion Walsh, Adrian Fuerst, Kevin Ryan and Marcellus Fisher. Cele- brating 25 years were Fathers Matthias Neuman and Ephrem Carr. Father Beck was born De- cember 10, 1906, in New Al- bany, Ind. He made his pro- fession of vows on August 6, 1927, and was ordained to the priesthood on July 3, 1932. He received an STD de- gree from Sant' Ansehno in Rome in 1935. Father Beck taught in the seminary from 1935-64. His teaching included Hebrew and Latin, Moral Tbeology, Pastoral Theology and Cul- tural History. From 1964-78 he was Assistant Chaplain at St. Mary-of-the-Woods. He has been living at the monastery since returning frmn St. Paul Hermitage in Beech Grove, Ind., where he served as chaplain from 1978-84. Also a natiw.  of New Al- bany, Father Fisher was born on June 18, 1916. He pro- fessed his VOWS on August 6, 1937, and was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 1942. Father Marcellus re- ,.... ceived a Bachelor of Arts de- gree from Saint Meinrad Col- lege, and an MDiv degree from Saint Meinrad School of Theology. From 1950-59, Father Fis- cher was pastor of St. John the Baptist in Starlight, Ind. He was Director of Retreats and Director of Development from 1960-67, pastor of St. Mary Parish in Huntingburg from 1967-77, and pastor of St. Henry Parish in St. Henry from 1977-88. He presently resides in the monastery in- firmary. Father Fuerst was born in Indianapolis on August 7, 1916. He professed his vows on August 6, 1937, and was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 1942. He has an STD degree from the Catholic Uni- versity of America in Wash- ington, DC. From 1946-71, Father. Fuerst was professor of Church History at Saint Meinrad School of Theology, and during part of that same time, from 1946-63 he also taught U.S. History at Saint Meinrad College. In March of 1969, he was appointed Pres- ident-Rector of the School of Theology. He also was an ed- ucational consultant for nu- merous religious and higher education clients. At the same time he served as Asso- ciate Pastor at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Easton, Md. In 1991, after completing 20 twenty years of work at CARA, he returned to St. Meinrad and is now living in the monastery infirmary. Father Ryan was born on April 9, 1916, in Evansville, but grew up in Louisville, Ky. He made his profession of vows on August 6, 1937, and was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 1942. He holds a Master of Science degree in Physics from Catholic University, a Master of Arts degree in counseling from Indiana Slate Univer- sity, and a Master of Divinity degree from Saint Meinrad. From 1940-47, Father Ryan taught physics at the Saint Meinrad Seminary High School. He served as associ- ate pastor at St. Meinrad Church from 1947-50, and from 1979-81. From 1950-58, he was assistant novice mas- ter, and from 1958-62 he was an instructor in the seminary. From 1963-68, he served as vice-rector and then rector of the high school seminary. Fa- ther Kevin was also the chap- lain for the Benedictine Sis- ters at Ferdinand from 1967-75. From 1977-85, he was a professor at Saint Meinrad College and in charge of the Abbey forests. Most recently, he has been Chaplain at Holy Angels Con- vent and St. Bernard Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark. He is now back at the monastery. Father Walsh was born in Connersville, Ind., on Octo- ber 2, 1917. He made his pro- fession of vows on August 6, 1937, and was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 1942. He holds a Masters de- gree in Religious Education from Catholic University of America. From 1942-67, Father Walsch taught Physics, Latin, and Religion at Saint Mein- rad High School. He was Cus- todian of Monte Cassino Shrine for 26 years following his teaching career. Father Carr was born on July 12, 1941, in Toledo, Ohio. He professed his vows on August 15, 1963, and was ordained to the priesthood on September 24, 1967. He holds a Bachelor of Arts de- gree in Classics from Saint Meinrad College and an STD degree in historical theology from Saint' Anselmo in Rome. In addition to teaching Church History at Saint RUXER FR. BECK FR. FUERST FR. RYAN FR. NEUMAN Meinrad School of Theology from 1970-78, and again from 1981-87, Father Carr was also Academic Dean of the School of Theology for six years (1973-76, 1978-81). From 1978-86, he also served as Subprior of the monastery. Currently, Father Ephrem is a professor at Sant' Anselmo in Rome, Italy. Father Neuman was born in Huntingburg, on December 2, 1941. He professed his vows on August 15, 1962, and was ordained to the priesthood on September 24, 1967. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Saint Mein- rad College and an STD de- gree in Systematic Theology from Sant' Anselmo in Rome. From 1969-81, Father Neu- man was Professor of Doctri- nal, Systematic, and Pastoral Theology at Saint Meinrad School of Theology. Since 1982, he has been professor of Theology at Saint Meinrad College.
