10 The Message --for Catholics of Southwestern.lnliana my Catholic Press Association honors Message for 'Taking the Time to Make a Difference' Message editor and syndicated columnist Paul R. Leingang was honored for his weekly column, "Taking the Time to Make a Dif- ference," by the Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada, May 24. In the international competi- tion, Leingang's column received a third place award in the cate- gory, Best Regular Column: Family Life. Leingang also re- ceived an honorable mention in the category, Best Regular Col- umn: Spiritual Life. This is the second year in a row that Leingang's column has received an award from the Catholic Press Association. In 1995, "Taking the Time to Make a Difference" was awarded a sec- ond place certificate in a special category for entries during the International Year of the Fam- ily. Leingang received a first Worth mentioning... St. Joseph Church, Jasper, honors priests Fathers Patrick Foster and Michael Allen were honored at an open house after a special Mass Sunday, May 26, cele- brating their anniversaries of ordination to the priesthood. Father Foster, pastor of St. Joseph, has served the Diocese of Evansville for 40 years in parishes and schools in Vincennes, Bloomfield, Loogootee, St. Wendel, Evansville and Jasper. Fa- ther Allen, associate pastor, has served in the diocese and in the armed services for 25 years. He has worked in parishes and schools in Haubstadt, Princeton, Vincennes, Cannelburg, Daviess County, Washington, Jasper, and as an Army chap- lain. place award for Best Regular Column: General Commentary in 1988 for columns submitted from the previous year, his first year as editor of the Message. "Taking the Time to Make a Difference" originates in the Message and is also syndicated for publication in other Catholic newspapers by the Christian Family Movement. Celebration will be June 2 Vincent and Alma (Eckert) Schmitt will celebrate their fifti- eth wedding anniversary with a Mass of Thanksgiving at 11 a.m. June 2 at St. Joseph Church, Jasper. A dinner for invited fam- ily will follow. Friends and rela- tives are invited to attend an Open House from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Home, Jasper. The couple requests no gifts.
