Elton John's latest hit, "Recover Your Soul," off RECOVER YOUR SOUL Baby you're missing/Something in the air./I got a name but it don't matter./What's going on?/It's cold in here./You have a life but it's torn and tattered. Maybe you're losing/Pieces of your heart./You have a world but it stopped turning./You lose the day/And gain the dark./Love was a fire but it stopped burning. REFRAIN So spare your heart save your soul/But don't drag your love across the coals./Find your feet, and your fortune can be told./Relax, relax, let go./And hey now let's recover/And hey now let's recover/And hey now let's recover your soul. The song says, "Maybe you're losing pieces of your heart." We can lose our souls when we don't live according to our hearts. That means each of us must be who God created us to be. We cannot be someone else. Neither do we need to be. As an individual you have your own personality, interests and abilities. It is a mistake to change your- self just to be accepted by others. No acceptance or approval is worth as much as that which comes from within. Consequently, know your values and act on them. Express your own goals. Don't give away pieces of your heart just to belong to a certain group or be accepted by peers. The song also says that "you lose the day and gain the dark." These lyrics seem to be a metaphor for behavior that harms you or others. Especially hurtful are words or actions that deceive others. When we lie we create a secret and dark life. less, that politics is aimed at keep- ing the rich in power at the expense of all others.
