Volunteers may observe a program to help prepare for their presentation, if they choose, according to Halterman. Presenters are expected to speak at only one program a id Halterman, and their commitment for that one pro- gram maybe limited to their scheduled presentation; they need not be present for the full afternoon program. The purpose of the Pre-Cana program is to enable the engaged couples to have a realistic understanding of a Chris- tian marriage, according to a brochure available from Catholic Charities, All couples arerequired to participate in an approved diocesan marriage preparation program, or its equivalent. Pre-Cana programs are held in Evansville; Jasper, Vincennes and Washington. Information for prospective present0r s is available from Catholic Charities, 423-5456. The retreat focused on deepening the par. ticipants' sense of personal worth, while emphasizing that "all of life is a gift from God and that per- sons are to be valued for themselves, not mere surface appearances," according to Beth Nord, Direc- tor of Youth Ministry at St. Joseph Church, Jasper.
