Weloome to The 0 Our Diocesan Youth C his Guide is designed to assist parents in getting a child to The Outpost for a summer camping experience. We are pleased that you are considering our camp and we value your trust in us as a quality Catholic outdoor endeavor. The staff and admin- istration of The Outpost have been preparing for your child's arrival since last August. Our mission remains clear: we will pro- vide your child a safe, holistic, and quality outdoor Catholic Camping expe- rience. We will accomplish our mission through holistic spiritual formation pro- grams, leadership development, and vocation discernment and awareness opportunities that are rooted in the Eucharist. As The Outpost completes its first 30 years of service for the youth of the diocese, we are entering a new and exciting phase of our existence. The Outpost has been accredited by the American Camping Association and has an affiliation with the National Fed- eration of Catholic Youth Catholic Camping Su' Accreditation is a ma We are ' to we are excep diocesan youth camP. A Me,gage to Parenl00 from the Office of Youth and Young Adult Formation... Growing up in today's culture is challenging. Our kids are at risk. More and more kids are feeling withdrawn and lack social skills; they're having trouble with attention and thinking skills; they are more aggressive and are faced with the increased pressures of drugs, violence, sexual permissiveness, and a culture that is engaged in individualism and self interests. Because of this, kids have increased anxiety and depression and they worry about their safety. The Outpost -- and camping in general -- is an excellent developmental answer for kids. The Outpost partners with par- ents and families to help children build values and skills that prepare them to handle the challenges of adulthood. The Out- post offers kids a supervised, positive environment where they can laugh and grow through a variety of activities -- all within a set of controlled boundaries. Our trained, caring counselors come from the parishes of the Diocese of Evansville and help shape the camper's experience. Camp experiences can satisfy what children need. We call young people to responsibility (the ability to make decisions and to accept the outcome), cooperation (the ability to work together towards a common goal), and self-esteem (a high opinion of self in relationship with Jesus and the confidence in ability to succeed). The Outpost is for the whole family. The camping experi- ence is designed to bond with the formation that you offer your child. The Outpost is a year-round ministry that has programs to meet a variety of your needs. In addition to the summer camp experience, we also offer a Christmas Party for all alum- ni, off-season family weekends at camp, off season camping for youth groups, training programs for Altar Servers, and a family formation book. We would like to encourage you to read the guidebook.
