On December 31, 1993, The Catholic Foundation of Indiana, Inc., completed its first full year of oper- ation. I am happy and proud to present the Foundation's first report to the Catholic people of the Diocese of The Foundation provides an excellent means for parishes, Schools and other organizations to help insure their future by establishin endowments The Foundation also serves as a bride corue " g ctmg donors and beneficiaries, giving donors a Way to express their desires about how the work of Christ is arried out in southwestern Indiana. Gifts given through the 0ttndation continue to give forever in the name of the donor. Here are just a few of the highlights and accomplishments of our first full year: * we created a Mission Statement to guide our activities and deliberations. we established a long-range plan with 6 specific goals. the Foundation's assets grew to almost $1,700,000. * 14 new endowments were added to the Foundation, rais- ing the total number of endowments to 22. the Foundation's general information booklet was revised and updated, and we published an attractive pro- motional brochure. a comprehensive accounting and financial reporting sys- tem was developed and is now fully operational. * we conducted five deanery receptions for parish leaders to introduce them to the Foundation. we received a personal financial commitment to the FOUndation from each board member. we established an endowment which, we hope, will eventually cover all operational expenses for the araFUndatu';arly;"" pleased about the Foundation '.,s financial I partiCuring 1993. Several board members noted that , lerforraance d we could not have found a more difficult time to invest the Foundation's assets as the board began its work in mid-1992. Yet, in spite of a sluggish economy and poor interest rates, we still managed to achieve an 8.2 percent return on the Foundation's assets for 1993, and we were able to distribute a total of $55,737.45 of income to the endowments. I cannot begin to express the depth of my gratitude to all of you who have helped make the Foundation success- ROBERT L. KOCH II President, Board of Directors ful, especially my fellow board members for their faithful dili- gence and selfless giving of time, talent and treasure in service to the Catholic people of southwestern Indiana. And I applaud Bishop Shea and Bishop Gettelfinger for their visionary leader- ship in establishing this Foundation. Our parishes, schools and other diocesan organizations will forever reap the benefits that this Foundation makes possible. Yes, I feel good about what we have accomplished in such a Short time. No, we are not satisfied with our results; in fact, we will always be seeking to improve. We are committed to the constant and steadfast pursuit of better ways to help the Foundation serve you, the Catholic community of Southwestern Indiana. ilil 00UNDATION xentucky Ave P,O.
