What if this person al- ways saw the best in you and helped you believe in yourself too? I ask these questions to help us consider what Easter means. To do this, we need to imagine what Jesus' friends were feeling on the Friday and Satur- day before Easter morning. Their grief and loss were overwhelming. I chose Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me" to reflect on these questions. Off the soundtrack of the new film "Up Close and Personal," Ms. Dion gives a powerful vocal rendition of how someone's love can change Us. Surely all the song's affirming statements could apply to how Jesus' friends felt about him. "A Family Thin#' aVlGMmA) Suddenly learning he is half- black, an older Southerner (Robert Duvall) travels to Chicago to meet his half- brother, an African- American cop (James Earl Jones) who shuns him, but whose blind aunt insists he stay with them a few days and get to know the family. Directed by Richard Pearce, the plot may be con- triced, but Jones and Duvall give interesting performances in what proves a touching story of coping with life's sur- prises. Fleeting violence, mild Washington Auto Trim 27 Years Service Rock and Roll at Mater Dei This year's spring produc- tion at Mater Dei High School, Evansville, is entitled "Long Live Rock and Roll." The MPAA rating is R -- re- stricted. "Jack & Sarah" (Gramercy) When his wife dies in child- birth, a devastated London so- licitor (Richard E. Grant) hires a friendly American waitress (Samantha Mathis) to be the infant's nanny and their work- ing relationship blossoms into romance.
