Diocese of Evansville The Chancery P.O. Box 4169 Evansville, Indiana 47724-0169 Most Rev. Gerald A. Gettelfinger Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: Springtime is a time of renewal. It is a time for planting, it is also a time for planning and budget- ing for another year which begins with the harvest in the fall. We have been engaged in budget- ing at the diocesan level. Parishes too are hard at work planning for next year. Parishes plan for their own operations and decide how to accomplish those things they can do by themselves. On the other hand, many things require collaboration with other parishes. Those plans and budget decisions are made at the interparish, deanery and diocesan level. The diocese provides a vehicle, the suppod system, for individual parishes to meet the financial commitment necessary to provide funding for diocesan wide services. At present it is called the Bishop's Fund/Annual Diocesan Appeal. As part of our work together, I turn to you each year, on behalf of your parish, to ask you to make a personal commitment to help your parish raise this portion of its operational budget. The monetary commitment you make is more than just paying the bills or satisfying a financial obligation. Your generosity enables the work of Jesus Christ to be accomplished in southwestern Indiana in a way that cuts across parish and deanery lines. You will find in this issue of the MESSAGE a listing of those items funded by your commitment to the ADA. Your immediate contribution or ADA pledge has the power to touch and transform lives in your parish, in our diocese;and, indeed, throughout the world. In behalf of your parish leadership, I ask you to consider God's many blessings to you, then please respond accordingly with the knowledge that God will not be outdone in generosity. What we are able to do alone is very limited. What we can accomplish together, with God's help, is immeasurable. As I make my pledge to St. Theresa, the parish in which I live, I am conscious that I will be joining you in your parish. Faithfully yours in Christ, Most Reverend Gerald A.
