Written by Dee Dee Halligan/Junior Torello i Sung by Haddaway Copyright (c) 1993 by Coconut Records/Arista Records Inc. If you've got a good thing going, why not stick to it? This seems to be Haddaway's approach with their second chart hit "Life." I can't find much difference between this re- lease and their chart debut "What Is Love?" The techno's the same; just the lyrics are changed. Yet the song has a way of grabbing the lis- tener's attention. I was especially drawn to the song's message about change. The feeling in the song is that change is not welcome. The person doesn't want change, especially since it appears to be affecting a relationship. He wants "to feel secure that you are still mine." Consequently, he asks this other person: "What is going on? What is on your mind?" The emphasis in techno is much more on the beat than the message, so I doubt if Haddaway is trying to convey anything significant. However, what they say about change is correct: "Life will never be the same, life is changing." It is a mistake in a relationship, or in just about anything else, to build one's sense of secu- rity on trying to keep everything the same. Life is inherently in motion. We can see this principle by looking anywhere in nature. We also need to expect change in =:i . This is particularly true if we want the relationship to stay alive and keep growing. Sometimes, we may not like the change curs. The question then becomes trust that the change will lead to a For example, your girlfriend or seek more distance in your relationship.
