Washington's Key Club Eight seniors at Memorial lIigh School, Evansville, are get- ting the chance to test out careers in teaching this semester: they are spending one hour a day working with students at St. Benedict School, Evansville, as part of Memorial's Cadet Pro- gram. "They get a feeling for how inuch energy it takes to teach for six hours," said Gerry Adams, Memorial principal. The stu- dents have been assigned a class- room in grades kindergarten through four. As part of the pro- gram, they are required to keep journals about their daily experi- ences. They are also required to observe the other classrooms "so they can see the differences in kids," Adams said. "The real key is 'Can you work with the students?'" The Memorial students receive class credit for their work. The students are Peter Kremzar, Nathan Frye, Matt Proffer, Jackie The newest members of the Key Club at Washington Catholic High School, Washington, in- clude freshmen students Jill Bahrick, Rachel Bradley, Chad Craney, Chris Creamer, Chris Daily, Jessica Decker, Billy Nol- ley, Delana Overton, Beth She- ley, Shaun Sullivan, Ellen Wag- ner, Charlie Wichman and Matt Wichman. New sophomore members in- clude Holly Strasnider, Deanna Deitz, Tommy Portee and Michael Halter. Junior Christy Smith is also a new Key Club member. I I I I Teacher of the Year: Nomination deadline is March 12 The Message and the Office of Catholic Education are co-sponsoring the sixth annual Dio- cese of Evansville Teacher of the Year award. Anyone, with the exception of immediate family members, may nominate a teacher for this award. To be eligible, teachers must currently be employed in the Diocese of Evansville and must have taught for a minimum of five years in diocesan schools. The Teacher of the Year must be a good role model for students; have a major influence in the lives of students; show concern with the faith development as well as the physical, mental and emotional development of students, and encourage students to improve their abilities and talents.
