2 The Message -- for Catholics of Southwestern Indiana Benedictine Father Eugene Hensell resigns as Pres Benedictine Archabbot Lam- bgrt Reilly of Saint Meinrad Archabbey and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Saint Meinrad College and School of Theology announced Feb. 8 that Benedictine Father Eu- gene Hensell has resigned as President-Rector of the Schools. "I have been in a major ad- ministration position in our Schools for nearly 15 years. During those years, as we worked to make our Schools the best they can be, we've faced many challenges," Father Hensell said. "I believe the mark of a good leader is know- ing when it is time to move on. I think that time for me is now." Fr. Hensell will remain in the post until his successor is named at the end of the cur- rent academic year. He will also co-direct Saint Meinrad's Continuing Education Pro- gram with Benedictine Sister Barbara C. Schmitz. A search for Father Hensell's successor will be ini- tiated by Saint Meinrad's Board of Trustees. According to the Bylaws of the Schools, the President-Rector of Saint Meinrad College and School of Theology must be selected from the Benedictine commu- nity at Saint Meinrad Arch- abbey. The Trustees' search committee expects to make its recommendation on the new President-Rector at its April board meeting Father Hensell is a native of Logansport, Ind., and a gradu- ate of Saint Meinrad College and School of Theology. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1969 for the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana, later earning a Master of Arts and a Stewardship by the Book In Sunday's first reading, the Israelites are urged to love their neighbors as themselves.
