!, February 15, 1991 The Message --for Catholics of Southwestern Indiana 15 Letters to Continued [tom page 4 diocese during 1990, I was disappointed to see that the in- itiation of new members into Our Church was not included as One of the most important oc- Currences of the year. There Were 75 people who had never been baptized-and 119 people baptized into other traditions that were presented to the Church for full initiation at the Diocesan Rite of Election on the First Sunday of Lent. Thirty Parishes were represented at the two locations in the diocese Where the Rite was held. This does not include the number of :hildren or others who may ve opted not to celebrate the :esan Rite, but were re- ieived into the Church at the ,aster Vigil and on Easter SUnday. important ac- There are many tivities which "occurred in the diocese in 1990. Since the in- itiation of new members is our direct response to the command of Jesus to "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the na- tions," I believe that the full in- itiation of 149 people into our Church is one of the very significant events of 1990. Lisa Provost Director of the RCIA St. Benedict Parish Co-chairman, Diocesan RCIA Steering Committee Medjugorje, Marian Movement To the editor, Due to all the wars going on all over the world now, I am sure more people have increas- ed their prayer life. However, we need more prayer groups as the Blessed Mother has re- quested at Medjugorje. Two of the churches here in Evansville have formed prayer groups. Also the Marian Movement is active here in several places. The Marian Movement was started by Father Gobbi at the request of the Blessed Mother in 1972 and she has been giving him messages that have been published in a book. If you are interested in either of these prayer groups, please come to Resurrection Church on Wednesday evening s at 7 p.m., Sundays at 3 p.m. or on Friday mornings at 8 a.m. No dues are required. If you are interested in star- ting a group in your parish, your family or your neighborhood, please ask for information. T. Frielinghausen Evansville, In. Our priests overworked To the editor, Thanks to Sue Waller for reminding all of us that we can no longer expect our priests to carry us every step of our Chris- tian journey. It's time to get rid of the notion that they should jump at the snap of our fingers. We should be careful of our demands and expectations of them. Our priests are all over- worked, underpaid and not thanked nearly enough for all they do for so many. Let us remember that they, too, need nurturing, encourage- ment, a lot of love, and prayers.
