The Message -- for Catholics of Southwestern Indiana February 15, 1991 I I I Valentines St. Philip's students write valentines to soldiers in the Gulf Students at St. Philip School, St. Philip, wrote Valentine let- ters to soldiers stationed in the Persian Gulf region who have connections to St. Philip parish. Here are exerpts from their letters: ! ,:;:: iiiiiiiii :::::v:k;::: :;::%: iilii .2 ;:.:+;:,:,: !!;ii!!iil ....,. ;. iii!iijiii; r:::::::::::::: i!!iiiiiiiiil ;;:;%:; ::%::::::; there. But I do. We are the reason. Your little cousin, Tony McDonald Richard Goedde, I am glad that you are serving our country and I'm sure everyone in the U.S. is very proud. At school, we had a Mass in honor of the men and women serving our country and I prayed very hard that you and all the other courageous and brave men and women would come home safe. I hope the war ends very soon. God bless and take care! Libby Schenk Dear Rick, This is a special time for me and I want it to be special for you too. Friday, January 25 our school had a church procession for all the men and women in the Middle East. I thought about you the whole time. I almost cried I was so scaredl You are in my prayers every day! I know it's hard for you right now, but I just want you to know that I care about you. At school we have yellow ribbons on all of the trees .... On all of my papers I turn in I put SOS (Save Our Soldiers) or TIMP (They're in my prayers). Stefanie Goedde Dear Richard, Today, we had a special Mass for everyone in Saudi Arabia. After Mass, Channel 14 taped St. Philip school wrapping a yellow ribbon around a tree. Most of the trees around school have yellow ribbons around them. Almost every person in school is wearing Red, White and Blue. We are all wearing yellow ribbons on our shirts. I honor all you are doing and everyone else is doing in Saudi Arabia. We respect you and thank you for all you are doing. Linda Martin Dear Bill, I feel bad that you had to go to war. Today at Church, we had a special Mass for the Americans and other soldiers in Saudi Arabia. I hope the war is short and successful. I am watching the news and listening to the radio every day. I know that all those protesters of this war don't knowwhy you are over Happy Valentine's Dayl I so 1'11 keep it short. We had Yellow Ribbon Day today. We wore white blouses, red sweaters and blue slacks. We're all behind you here in St. Philip. You and your friends make us happy. Thank you from the land of the free and the home of the brave. Niki Hemmer Dear Captain Patrick Riley, Today, we had a big Mass to honor you and everyone else over in Saudi Arabia. At the end of Mass, my brother went up and read part of your letter. The third grade teacher started to cry. Everyone loved your letter. Dena Begerstedt Dear Kenney, I'm praying for peace. I really hope that no one will get killed and everyone gets home safely. We had a special Mass today where almost everyone wore a white blouse, red sweater and blue pants. I would just like to blow Saddam Hussein off the face of the earth! I know God will take care of you and everyone over in Saudi Arabia. Angie Miller Dear Jeremy, We had a special Mass for all the servicemen. We all wore lit- tle yellow ribbons too. ]'m sending mine to you. I don't know if you'll like it, but I think it'll be kind of neat. The church is all decorated with red, white, blue and yellow. Your dad was at the special Mass .... We have yellow ribbons around the trees and in the windows of church and school. Jenny Folz Dear Matthew, How are you doing over there? We had a Mass today to honor the soldiers fighting for us. I took up a flag because I am a Boy Scout. I wish to become a soldier like you to protect peo- ple. I wish you a Happy Valen- tine's Day. I hope you come home soon! Mat Schenk .00chnitztlbank RESTAURANT FOR ALL YOUR CA ITVG Nl;gl, CALL l =- = I Hwy aZ S. | 3 3d w., l--po, | llllll l I I Main Street II 217 E.
