February 15, 1991 The Message -- for Catholics of Southwestern Indiana Around the Diocese 7 Memorial wins first place The Academic Decathlon team at Memorial High School, Evansville, won the small school division in the sixth annual In- diana Academic Decathlon held last weekend in Indianapolis. The contest involved answer- ing questions in 10 academic fields, including a final Super Quiz that covered astronomy and the space program. Team members included Matt Leingang, Nick Knowlton, Julia Cook, Dan Bryan, Amy Schenk, Vallee Bowen, B.J. Kelly, Stephanie Pickens and Jerady Strassweg. Team coaches were Mace Branchia and Sister Margaret Quinlan. Memorial students who won individual gold medals included Kelly in economics, Leingang in mathematics and Knowlton in science. Knowlton also received Happy Birthday! Father Charles Kaiser, pastor emeritus at Holy Cross Church, Fort Branch, celebrates his birth- day Feb. 17. Mater Dei,s DAN winners Cathy Kitsch and Tony Bacon, seniors at Mater Dei High School, Evansville, werp honored for their citizenship qualities at the annual Daughters of the American Revolution Washington-Lincoln tea. Kirsch was named 1991 Good Citizen representative. Bacon was named Mater Dei's 1991 Good Citizenship winner.
