The Message -- for Catholics of Southwestern Indiana Golden Jubilarians Vincent and Betty Ruth (May) Georges of rural Fort Branch will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a Mass of Thanksgiving Feb. 17 at Blessed Sacrament Church, Oakland City. A dinner/dance will be held at the Vanderburgh 4-H Center. The couple was married Feb. 20, 1946, at St. Joseph Church, Princeton, by Father Nicholas Hassel. They are the parents of six children. They have 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Golden Jubilarians Edward and Clara (Hillenbrand) Steckler of Evansville will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a Mass of Thanksgiving at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at St. James Church, St. James. A buffet reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. The couple wasmarried Feb. 28, 1946, at St. John Church by Father Henry C. Hunger. They are the parents of six children: JoAnn Schenk, deceased, John Steckler and Robert Steckler, both of Haubstadt, Becky Greathouse of San Leandro, Cal., Jean Seib of Evansville, and Sue Garriott of Plainfield, In. LEINGANG Message editor Board members and volun- teers of the Catholic Education Foundation met Feb. 1 for breakfast at Sarto Retreat House, and to kick off the 1996 fund raising campaign for $154,538. CEF provides tuition grants- in-aid each year to deserving students who could otherwise not afford to attend either Mater Dei or Memorial high schools. CEF also provides fi- nancial assistance to the Mar- ian Day Program for students wfth special needs. Board members and dona- tion solicitors agreed at their annual meeting in October to increase the tuition grants for the coming year. They added $10,000 to the amount they want to raise, for a total of $133,000 in grants during the 1996-97 school year. During the 1995-96 school year, CEF will provide grants to 128 students, totaling $126,131. Grants range from $200 to $1,666.
