February 8, 1991 The Message -- for Catholics of Southwestern Indiana ii Around the Diocese 7 All Star Youth Team Eighteen people have been nominated for the "All Star Youth Team" for the Diocese of Evansville, according to Richard Etienne, diocesan director of youth ministry. The "All Star Youth Team" was established to acknowledge young people who have given outstanding service to their Church, schools and community. Nominees will be recognized at Youth Day XX1V which will be held Feb. 17 at St. Joseph Church, Jasper. International Day at Marian [-ielghts Students at Marian Day School, Ferdinand, participated m "An International Day at an In- ternational School" Feb. 5. Presentations covered countries oa five continents and included two American Indian reservations. k Joyce Anderson was the eynote speaker; she has traveled and studied in India and in two African countries. Other counties and areas on the International /bay agenda included India, West trice, England Zaire, South Africa, Israel, Panama, Ecuador, Urkey, Pakistan, Germany, Mex- Ico and Japan. Presenters also discussed the Choctaw Indians and the Chip- lewa Indians. Happy Birthday! Sister Marilyn Schroering, O.S.B., principal at Holy Family School, Jasper, celebrates her birthday Feb. 12. Top spellers. at Holy Family Chris Dilger, an eighth grader at Holy Family School, Jasper, is the winner of the school spelling bee. He is the son of Bob and Sharon Dilger. Diane Seng is the runner-up. She is a seventh grader and the daughter of Louis and Linda Seng. Guest speakers at St. Matthew Nine speakers from countries visited with students at St. Matthew School, Mount Ver- non, during Catholic Schools Week. The speakers included Ping Liu from China, Wie Pan from Indonesia, Peter Stahl from Germany, Cassia Roque from Brazil, Omar Boutni from Moroc- co, Madhu Mendiratta from In- dia, Luca Fontana from Italy, Dominique Arnold from France and Dimitris Katsamberis from Greece. First division Instrumentalists from Marian Heights Academy, Ferdinand, competing in the District Music contests on Jan. 26, all won first division awards. They are Amy Johnson, Laura Ort, DeAnna Caudillo and Caroline' Bandy. They are the students of Sister Mary Inez Mitchell and Sister Theresita Schenk. New teacher at St. Philip's Karen Hinderliter will be homeroom teacher for seventh graders at St. Philip School, St. Philip, while Donna Folz is on maternity leave.
