J V The Message -- for Catholics of Southwestern Indiana State of the Diocese will be called to fill. i Pastoral L,ife Coordinators serve parishes Nicholas, Santa Claus; Deacon Joseph Sturgis at St. Thomas, Knox County, and Sister of the Blessed Sacra- ment Jane Nesmith at St. John the Apostle, Evans- ville. Sister Mary Terence Knapp was the first woman to lead a parish in the Diocese of Evansville, when she was appointed to Holy Name Church, Bloomfield, in 1983. Since 1990, Sister Knapp has been the pastoral life coordinator of St. Nicholas Church, Santa Claus. Sister Knapp was born May 30, 1929. She entered Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand in 1946, and professed her vows in 19951. Her service to the Church has included teaching and religious edu- cation positions at the parish and diocesan level. Sister Diane Fischer was born Oct. 20, 1936. After entering Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdi- : nand in 1954, she professed vows in 1956. Her service to the Church has included various teaching and parish SISTER JANE positions in the Diocese of Evansville. Her recent DEACON JOSEPH STURGIS NESMITH, S.B.S. assignments have included Holy Angels, New Harmo- ny, where she was pastoral associate from 1986 to 1991. She was appointed to Holy Name, Bloomfield in !991. Deacon Joseph Sturgis is the only deacon currently serving as pastoral life coordinator. In recent years, however, several deacons have held such positions, including Deacon Donald Lahay who was pastoral life coordinator of All Saints Church, Cannelburg and St. Mary Church, Daviess County. Deacon Richard Preske and Deacon Robert Hayden have served assignments as pastoral life coordinator of Blessed Sacrament Church, Oakland City. Deacon Sturgis was born Feb. 27, 1933. He was comptroller of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane, Ind., until his retirement in 1994. He was appointed to St. Thomas Church in 1995. Sister Jane Nesmith is the newest pastoral life coor- dinator in the diocese. She was appointed to St. John the Apostle in August, and installed at the parish in Evansville in October.
