tt of the Diocese presents the State of the Dio- on Nov. 23 at Good Shepherd Prepared by Bishop Gerald A. Gettelfinger for Parish Leadership November 23, 1996 Diocese-at-Large in the Message This is the first time in my pastoral role as bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Evansville that I have given an address reflecting the state of the diocese as I see it. Never before have I given an account- ing other than the audited annual financial report which has been published each year in the Message. Today, I am most pleased to address you as bishop and to make this report on the state of our diocese as it has evolved through all of our mutual efforts since April 1989. At the outset, allow me to say that Bishop Francis Raymond Shea was absolutely correct when he told me on March 8, 1989, that the beauty of the Diocese of Evansville was a well-guarded secret. Nei- ther then, nor now, have I ever questioned his assessment. You, who are the Diocese of Evansville and for whom I am privileged to serve as pastor, are a blessing to the Universal Church. I affirm Bishop Shea's insight which was verified for him by his experience. I have been gifted with the same wonderful and most positive experience. God has endowed each of us with His life through baptism. God has given us even more. We are the beneficiaries of His myriad material gifts. Our diocese is wealthy. No, we may not have all the personnel, facilities or financial resources we would like or want, but we do have what we need in abundance. Through Baptism, each of us is called to share in Jesus' Priesthood of service. Equally, I see evidence each day that you are responding to that call. You would not be here today if that were not true. Let us reach out to encourage others to share with us. parish staffing • • • • • • • • • • • • • • * • • • • • -- * • *. es: Construction • • • • • •" • • "• """ *" "" "" * * *" ฐ """ "'ฐ" QOOOOOO*OOOQO*OOOOOOOOOOa*OO*O001*0*O000| "'-.....-.-.-.----''"'"'"'''''"'"'"''"'"''''''''.- PageVlll lies ---"-'..----"'"''"'"'"'"*'"'"'*"''"'''"'-..,Page X "''"'''---'-'---'-''''"'"'"'"'"'''*'"'''""'""-''...Page XI ' ฎ • , r........, tV "" *" """ • ' • * * Page V • • • * * • • • * * * Page VII
