12 The Message -- for Catholics of Southwestern Indiana January 6, 1989 Open House Jan. 8 at St. Mary, Shoals An open house is planned at the new parish .center at St. Mary Church, Shoals, Sunday, Jan. 8, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., according to Msgr. Carl Shetler, pastor. The open house will begin with a short prayer of dedica- tion and blessing, he said. The public is cordially invited to visit the new facility and enjoy punch and cookies. The new hall had been in the planning stage for over a year prior to the beginning of its construction in the first week of May, according to Msgr. Shetler. Construction work was completed Nov. 1. Members of the parish council and building committee are Bruce Hawkins, Dick Howell, Jeff Fan'ell, Alice Boyd and Robert Rorsting. Construction costs amounted to $83,074.70; fur- nishings and other costs brought the building total to $98,306.13. The new building has facilities for religious educa- tion, office and and meeting areas for parish and social pur- poses; it replaces the 93-year- old rectory, which was no longer used as a priest's residence. The building contains ap- proximately 3000 square feet of space. Four rooms on the upper level serve as office and religious education rooms. On the lower level are a hall, kit- chen, restrooms and a utility room. The hall seats approx- imately 125 persons for meetings, dinners, receptions and various social functions. The structure, of filled split- faced block with white siding and steeply sloped roof, mat- ches the general appearance of the church building. Thomas E. Schroeder was the architect. The contractor was Cooper Construction Company with Wagler Plumbing and Hebner Electric. Acknowledged for their con- tributions to the building com- pletion were Charles Cooper of Cooper Construction Company; Thomas E. Schroeder, P.E.; Rodney Wright and Marie Hawkins of American Tree Ex- perts; Wes and Agnes Cooper; Albert Felton, Auctioneer; Gary Burris of Burris Excavating; Robert and Marilyn Horsting; men and women of the parish for sidewalk construction and several Jasper firms who wish to remain anonymous. Msgr. Shetler said that "a special thanks is in order to all the members and friends of St. Mary Church who have pledged over $20,000 to help pay for the new parish center." The new parish center at Shoals is ready for open house Sunday. The parish hall has seating for approximately 125 people. 00Dubois County Bank , CLOSE TO YOU WITH 8 CONVENIENT LOCATIONS CHARISMATIC MASS Father AI Lauer Father AI Lauer of "'DAILY BREAD'" Radio Ministry Will Be In Evansville Sunday January 8 at 7:00 P.M.
