For Assisi The Franciscans' Holy Name Province in the United States has sent $64,000 to the order's headquarters in Rome to help restore the Catholic shrines of Assisi, Italy, from the devastation caused by earthquakes this fall. Creche on display The first creche in Philadel- phia's Independence Nation- al Historical Park will remain on display until Jan. 8. The! creche was put uF by the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights and its Greater Philadelphia-South Jersey Chapter. A Christmas tree and a Menorah are also on display. Going to missions The Maryknoll Association commissioned 11 new lay missioners  including four married couples  for assign- ments in Latin America, Africa and Southeast Asia. The commissioning ceremony took place Dec. 13 at Mary- knoll headquarters. Wins Web award The Louisiana Diocese of Alexandria's Web site has received a gold award at the 1997 New Media Invision awards festival held in San Francisco in November. The site at www.diocesealex.org was particularly noted for its compelling interactivity and its colorful design, vfhich judges said enliventKi the site without requiring extensive bandwidth.
